Question
i need torque specs for cylinder and head also head gasket has smaller coolant holes on one side should these go on int. or ex. side? does it matter which way open end of piston pin circlip faces ie. up down front back? thank you for your help!

Answer
Hi Dan,

Q:  i need torque specs for cylinder and head

A:  I can give you torque specs if you provide the size stud and nut being used. I don't have the Service Manual for this model.

Q:  also head gasket has smaller coolant holes on one side should these go on int. or ex. side?

A:  Smaller holes likely go to the cooler intake side of cylinder. Exhaust side will be much hotter for obvious reasons and needs more cooling efficiency. Align bolt hole pattern and see which way the gasket fits.

Q:  does it matter which way open end of piston pin circlip faces ie. up down front back?

A:  Yes, this is important. Place clip ends either directed North or South. If placed East or West, inertia can squeze clips open and cause them to become unsecured resulting in serious engine damage.

I recommend the Service/Repair Manual for all service and maintenance on your RM. There's things to know and check when performing this kind of work. It will pay for itself with the first repair, and may save you $$$ by not making critical inspection/reassembly errors.

Visit the following website to see microfiche parts on-line: "www.bikebandit.com" Click "OEM Parts" and select your RM from the menus that follow. They have manuals, too. Also check Ebay for manuals.
