Motorcycle Repair: Cracked oil pan, honda cb450, mc shop

Question
I own a 1985 Honda CB450 Nighthawk and as I was removing the oil bolt the aluminum casing cracked, and a large chunk of the oil pan came out with the bolt.  How hard/expensive is this to repair?  The missing chunk is approximately triangular in shape, with the base being about 2-3 inches long and the height being about 3-4 inches long.   The threads run through the middle of the triangle. Thanks for any input you may have.

Answer
Hi Chuck,

I would need to see the damage before accurately advising on repair and cost of labor.

Replacing the pan may be the cheaper route. Check parts prices here: "www.bikebandit.com" Click on "OEM Parts" and select your MC from the menus that appear.

Have a local machine shop look at the damages. A MC shop will likely farm the work out to a machine shop. Bring both parts to them in "very clean" condition.

Damages can usually be restored with molten material and a new hole tapped to new condition. The machinist will decide upon seeing the work.
