Motorcycle Repair: PW50 carb settings, clymer repair manual, stroke cycle

Question
Hi

have bought a three year old pw50 for my son.
Bike doesn't want to rev out crisply and smokes. I have adjusted the screw to the right of the idle. Anticlockwise turns have helped a lot but I think I may be turning it an excessive ammount to the point where when you rev the bike it turns itself clockwise hence reintroducing the problem. There looks like there is an adjustment screw for the autolube below but I am cautious of turning this as I don't want to cease the engine. I've seen some article about a different jet. I would say the jet in this is standard as it is in as new condition. Is the type of oil critical or is any 2 stroke oil OK to use.

Many thanks

John

Answer
Hi John,

I recommend obtaining a copy of Yamaha's Service Manual or at least a Clymer Repair Manual. These manuals have detailed information on every repair and maintenance procedure and will pay for themselves with the first home repair.

Check on line for websites dedicated to the PW50 such as this:

www.motocross.com/motoprof/

and for parts microfiche use:

www.yamaha-motor.com

www.bikebandit.com

Remove the spark plug and describe its appearance. Use a quality brand two-stroke cycle oil designed for motorcycles.

Send me an email address as requested. I'll return carburetor tuning information that will help you.
