My sportster has just recently started blowing its fuse, I have re-wrapped all the wires at the connections in electrical tape, I really just need more guidance on what else to look for to solve this problem so that I can get back on the road.

When the breaker pops, what doesnt work?

When the breaker pops, there is no power to the rest of the bike.  The fuse is wired between the diode where the battery positive connects, it then runs to the bar where all my wiring connects, is it possible my battery is giving off to much power?

Your 71 didnt come with a diode, so I am not sure why it is there. Your power should go from the battery to a breaker, which should reset when the power is turned off. i would start by replacing that breaker. If you still have the same problem, then you have a short somewhere and will have to start tracing wires until you find it.
