Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha yz125 alignment, yamaha yz 125, bike dealer

Question
Hello Chris,

I have a question about a Yamaha YZ 125 that I recently purchased. The alignment of my front end is slightly off center. With the handlebars straight the front wheel is turning slightly left. When looking down from the bars to the wheel, everything is in alignment other that the two supports that attach to the frame. Basically the top support seems to either bent or needs aligning. I can't see any signs of it being damaged but it definitely does not line up. Can this be adjusted by loosing all bolts on the brackets and the main bolt that attaches to the frame and then aligning? Or does something need to be replaced? As I said, I recently purchased the bike from a used bike dealer so I don't know much about the previous owner. Thanks Chris, I appreciate any suggestions.

Answer
Hi Alan.
The assembly that the forks are attached to, at the steering head, is called a triple tree.  What you need to do is to loosen either the upper or lower fork mounting bolts on the triple tree and adjust the alignment that way, then tighten them back up.  It's a very easy operation, but may need to be repeated for fine tuning the alignment.

Good luck.
