Motorcycle Repair: Chain adjustment, bike bandit, axle nuts

Question
I am unable to loosen the axle nuts on the rear wheel to adjust the chain.  There is a very small counter pin on a small extension of the axle end(right hand side).  I removed the counter pin but still cannot loosen the nut.  2000 Kawaski Vulcan 800B Classic.  What am I doing wrong or what am I missing?   Thanks ..Bob

Answer
Hi Bob,

To start, visit the following website and indicate by part numbers which parts you're referring to. Once the site opens, select "Swingarm" and view the parts. We can go from there. Use my email for reply: mshively1@woh.rr.com

See microfiche parts here: "www.buykawasaki.com" or "www.bikebandit.com"

Once Kawasaki's site opens, click green text "Vehicle Information" from the menu, and then "View Parts Diagram" from the menu. A new page opens, select "Motorcycle" from the menu, (or enter your VIN for the “history” of your MC). Select the year, make and model from the menus that follow.

With Bike Bandit, click "OEM Parts" and then select your MC from the menus that follow.
