Motorcycle Repair: vacuum switch valve, air fuel mixture, combustion gases

Question
Hi Mark, I took my 1995 kz1000p to the mechanic and he took the vacuum switch valve out, said that I didn't need it and that it would help the bike warm up faster. If this is the case, what's the purpose of this device and by removing it will it have any affect on the bike. Thanks

Answer
Hi Jack!!!

The valve is part of the emissions system. Like the positive pressure crankcase vent, these parts route combustion gases that blow-by piston rings and valve guide seals to the airbox. They rob hosepower in the sense that these blow-by gases are fed into the combustion chambers with each cylinder's fresh air-fuel mixture charge, displacing power producing air/fuel. This is the EPA's regulations for Clean Air Act and emmissions control, especially you Californian's.

Go to Kawasaki's website to see the microfiche part. Remember how to get there?

I'm not sure how the part will aid with warming the engine. That's science news to me. : )

Happy Thanksgiving!
