I have a 97 FLHTCUI that is stock except for Super Trap mufflers. The bike sat for almost a year with only minimal starting. The problem is that the there is a dead spot in the acceleration and at times it will idle at 2000 RPM and then go back to 800 RPM. The problem goes away with fresh plugs and then returns in a day or so. Also the gas mileage has went to hell. Used to get 200 miles to the tank and now getting about 115. Also notice that at hwy speeds there is a miss in engine. No Harley shops or wrenchs close...
Any ideas where to start looking?

Sounds like one of the jets is slightly blocked with dirt. Remove the carb and take the carb apart and clean it. Should solve your problem

Woops, sorry. Guess I should have looked at the letters more closely. There is a filter in the tank which keeps the trash out of the fuel pump. I would start by cleaning it. It might be plugged. Also by sitting and not being run alot the fuel injectors might be plugged. I wouls start with this.
