Motorcycle Repair: soilonid, timing specs, resurected

goodmorning i have a 1987 600r kawa it was sittitng for a couple of years. i charged the batterie got it to start. i changed the plugs put fresh gas changed the oil also changed the starter soilnoid was not getting juice to starter it now will not start have same problem starter switch does not engage soilnoid can only start starter if bypass soilnoid but still wont start even though got it running ahter sitting please help.. dan

Hi Danny.
 Here's what you need to do; (steps 1 - 3 are because the bike sat for a long time before being resurected)

1)  Drain, clean and reseal the tank.

2)  Pull and clean the carbs thoroughly and completely.

3)  Synchronize the carbs (after you get it started again).

4)  Check the valve gap and timing (specs are in the repair manual).

5)  Check all of the ignition and starter circuit wiring for shorts.

6)  Check all switches and connections for good contact.

7)  Check the sidestand cutoff switch.  It may be bad as well.  Either replace it or bypass it if it is bad.

 If after all of that, the starter will only work by bypassing it, then you may need a new solenoid.
