Motorcycle Repair: yamaha xj650 maxim imported usa 1981, yamaha xj 650, v twin

i have a yamaha xj650 maxim 1981 i want to no wheather a yamaha xj 650 engine will fit into mine the only differance i can see is the engine i want to buy has an oil cooler mine does not or could you tell me a suitable one that does fit without to many altrations your help would be truly appreciated thank you alan

Hi Alan.
 With any engine swap, the only things that you need concern yourself is;

1)  Will the new engine fit in the same space?

2)  Do the engine mounts line up the same on both the old engine and the new?

3)  Is the frame built to take the engine size that I am installing?

4)  Is the new engine the same (or similar enough) configuration as the old one (V-twin for V-twin, inline for inline, etc.)?

Outside of that, about anything goes.
