Motorcycle Repair: gearchange, correct tension, downshifting

Question
Chris ,
whenever i pull the clutch in on my 97 gsxr600wv and rev the engine to change down the box i get a funny sort of dink noise, thats the best way to describe it. What can this be as the drive chain is at the correct tension and well lubed if this has any sort of connection. This only happens when i change down the box. The bike is otherwise in immaculate condition

Answer
Hi Michael.
That little sound may be normal and you are just noticing it, now.

Over the past 2 decades of riding, I have learned to shut out the shifter noise and only notice if it makes an unusual noise.

Many bikes make the same noise upshifting as downshifting, while others make one noise upshifting and another downshifting.

If the transmission begins to behave in an unusual manner or begins to sound different, then get the bike to the shop to have it checked out.

Good luck.
