Motorcycle Repair: engine cutting out, dyna super glide sport, starter button

Question
I recently purchased a '99 Dyna Super Glide Sport. On several different occassions, the engine shut down while winding it out in 2nd gear. When this happens, I need to leave it sit for 15-20 minutes before attempting to start it. If I try to start it too soon after it shuts down, it simply won't start and I am forced to wait another 20-minutes. Someone suggested the gas might be bad so I drained the tank, removed and cleaned the carb. Yet, it did it again. As a former certified mechanic for both Ford and GM, I'm convinced it's an electrical problem, not a fuel problem. Is there a safety cut out switch on the bike that resets itself once it cools down? If that is the case, do I replace it or is something else causing it to shut down. Could it be some type of modulator? PLEASE HELP!

Also, the bike has an after market SS carb. The former owner (whom I believe to be an honest man) told me to crank the throttle 3-times and choke it before starting. I have found this works when the bike is cold. However, I always hold my breath when trying to start it...hot or cold. The mechanic at Harley told me never to crank the throttle before starting. What is the proper way to start the bike? Could the two problems be related?

Thank you,

Leo

Answer
the problems are not related, Turn on gas and one quick wide open throttle. Now pull enrichner up and do NOT give it any gas. The bike will start up cold every time, When hot. No gas pull enrichner up and hit starter button no GAS.   It is a electrical problem, You need to replace the ignition modual.  Johnny
