Motorcycle Repair: 82 CB750K Throttle too tight, throttle shaft, throttle linkage

Question
I had the quad carbs off and rebuilt by a shop. I just put them back on and found the throttle was very hard to turn. It's not the cable, it's the carb throttle linkage. Is there a way to adjust the tension on it?
p.s. Thanks for your quick reply to my rusty chain question...think I'll look into a new one.

Answer
Hi again Mart, Nope..there is no adjustment for tension. Your bike utilizes CV carbs with a push pull throttle, the throttle merely opens and closes the butterfly valves. The butterflys have a return spring and adjustments for Synching. With the return spring removed all four valves should rotate together open and closed EFFORTLESSLY. If your positive that your cable is routed correctly and not pinched or kinked or frayed then I would recommend you stop by the shop and speak to the service manager, casualy mention that you would like to bring your carburators back and could he take a minute to double check them for you. Be very casual about it, he will try to ask what the problem is..YOU DONT KNOW..COULD YOU JUST TAKE A MINUTE TO GO OVER THEM WITH ME?? and when he says "sure" ask when he could schedule you...then confirm your appointment..and cheerfully go on your way.  I really dont like to point the finger at repair shops and their staff unless I, in person can rule out all other possibilities. Here is why...if your throttle shaft or butterfly valves are binding directly after an overhaul..and your cable is not the cause..then your carbs may have been damaged beyond repair and must be replaced. How? Inexperience, accident, carelessness, or an undetermind reason...the tech could have really taken his time to do a good job, by the numbers and still the carbs end up damaged. Seperating them from each other is also not recommended unless changing a carb body or repairing a leak. It's been my experience that multi bank carbs that are binding are multi bank carbs going into the scrap bin. Remember, try not to overeact when your at the shop and keep things casual...if the carbs are unrepairable the shop may not be at total fault, they are over twenty years old and a very poor design to begin with. In fact I am impressed that they even agreed to work on them..most shops would turn you away. So with all that in mind be prepared to comprimise...some shops might say " hey pal too bad" no gaurentee..hit the road....... Then again you might have your cable pinched..LOL.....

keep me posted
