Motorcycle Repair: pull start, recoil starter, honda forum

I have a 1984 ATC70 three wheeler I wanted to replace the pull string on the pull starter...the spring came out..ouch..how do i get it back in and whind it back up..I tried for a hour and cant get it is there a trick?

Hi James,

That is a difficult task. I searched my online resources for intel on the subject with negative results.

Its been 14 years since I've performed that task. I recall using basic hand tools such as screwdrivers and pliers to persuade parts and rewind the spring. Wear gloves to limit or prevent ijury from slipping parts.

The Service Manual may give better how-to install intel. My Honda Common Service Manual (factory mother manual) doesen't even have recoil starter section!

I think you're on the right path. Keep at it and you'll get it. If you're cussing, you're almost there. : )
