Motorcycle Repair: 82 honda cb900f stator, honda cb900f, resistance values

Question
is there an easy way to test the stator, i suspect it not working?  thankz  arnold

Answer
Go to www.electrexusa.com for extensive test information.

Basically you can test the stator with an OHM meter. Disconnect the plug and check the (usually) yellow wires.
They should all be interconnected electrically, but should NOT show a path to ground. Stator failures are somewhat rare. The most common failures on these bikes are the brushes wearing down and more so the rotor windings going open or shorting when the rotor is hot after extended running.
Check the resistance values of the slip rings on the rotor cold and then hot. Sometimes the values are such that the system won't output even cold, sometimes only when the components have heated up during running.
