Motorcycle Repair: locked up two-stroke motor, stroke motor, serious time

Question
I have a 1967Yamaha 180 bonanza that has been sitting since the 70's the seller told me it did not lock up while running...it has just set a long time...How can I unfreeze it without taking it apart or do I have to take the top end apart?

Answer
Hi Dennis, it has been my experience that a two stroke motor sitting for that period of time outside in the weather is now scrap. The engine will be extremely difficult if not impossible to even disassemble without some serious time and effort, even then it will have suffered terrible damage in the proccess. If it was stored in a garage or shed, protected from the elements than there are some things we could try. Remove the plug and pour in some Auto trans fluid, let that soak for a week, than try and spin her over. Do Not use the Kick Starter! Put it in first gear and roll it gently back and forth. Nothing? Lets try some Brake Fluid down the hole, let it sit a week, Remember to reinstall the spark plug. Try again rolling it back an forth. Nothing? Then the engine needs to come out of the chassis and we are back to the serious time and effort with no gaurentees again. Good luck Dennis
