Motorcycle Repair: Bike cuts out when riding, kawasaki vulcan 750, 1995 kawasaki vulcan 750

Question
Hi..
I have a 1995 Kawasaki Vulcan 750. I saw another question on the website dated 7/2/04 for a Harley but not sure if the gas cap thing is happening for my bike as I don't notice a high pitched sound.  Here's what happens..I am cruising along at speed. My bike seems to lose power. Not sputtering or anything like that.  Then it just dies.  Some times I am lucky to make it to the side of the rode.  After it sits a while,  it starts back up.  Sometimes this will happen not just once in a single ride.  I tried some carb/injector cleaner but that did not seem to help. I am wondering the key is loose.  Sometimes when I am backing out and turning my wheel it goes off.  Any ideas before this bike kills me? !

Answer
Hi Betsy,

I believe there is more than one problem. I recommend having a local tech examine the MC.

I suspect an intake air leak and/or carburetors are out of synchronization causing the loss of power/stalling when warm symptoms. It could be a pinched or collaspsed fuel or vacuum hose, or other cause.

A loose electrical connection such as a loose ignition switch or a loose battery terminal connection may cause similar symptoms.
