Motorcycle Repair: kickstand switch, ninja 250, hi chris

heres my problem,i have a 1996 ninja 250.i am trying to get this bike thru inspection. the kick stand switch is not working. i have tested the switch and it is closing and opening.when the bike is running and the kickstand down it should stop running when put in gear, right? what else can i check? thanks for any help you can offer

Hi Chris.
 The sidestand cutoff switch is a real pain in the but.  The wiring could be shorted, but most likely it is the switch itself.  There are 2 overall for that component of the system.  The sidestand switch and the clutch switch.  If the clutch is in, then the bike should die either right away or as you let out the clutch.

 It could be the switch at the clutch that is bad.  Test both switches with a multimeter against the specs in the repair manual.  If it's not that, then it must be in the wiring.
