Motorcycle Repair: Starter clutch, starter clutch, spring material

Question
Hi I've got a 1983 cb1100f, the starter clutch seems to be the main problem.  I was having trouble with it before and so I got into and replaced the springs and the caps, the rollers were fine. And put everything back together(no extra parts) and the starter and big gear just spin.  I've opened it up again and checked and the main starter gear is also spining but nothing engages.I have a new higher amperage battery fully charged(on a tender now actually) so it seems to be getting plenty of power.

Answer
Brooke, it sounds like you are comfortable digging in there to fix what's wrong. As you know, there is not that much going on inside, but perhaps there is a problem with the inner starter clutch hub, where the rollers are not "grabbing" the hub during the stater engagement.
From the internet microfiche scans, it looks like the flange for the starter clutch has splines on it. Check for worn splines or if there are any keys/keyways in the end of the crankshaft that could have sheared off, causing everything to slip on the end of the crankshaft.

Be sure that you got all of the old spring material out of the holes in the starter clutch. They often break apart inside and the leftovers will jam up the new springs.
