Motorcycle Repair: Old gasket removal, knife sharpening stone, gasket material

Question
Bill,
What's the best way to remove stubborn bits of old gasket from engine casings?
Suzuki GN125E.
Thanks,
JonnyD

Answer
Jonny, sometimes they are a real pain to get free from the metal surfaces.
Try spray-on gasket cleaner products OR
A single edged razor blade OR
a large single cut file if you are working on large flat surfaces.OR
If you have access to a solvent tank, you can use a large knife sharpening stone to remove the smaller bits, keeping it wet with solvent... USE GLOVES!OR
A very sharp gasket scraper will generally get a lot of it off, but can gouge the metal when it slips off the gasket material.
