Motorcycle Repair: neutrel light doesnt always come on, bandit alley, suzuki bandit

Hi Chris,  

Saw your name on Bandit Alley.  I have a 2001 Suzuki Bandit 1200S.  The problem is that the bike goes into neutral but some time the neutral light doesn't come on.  The light is not burnt out because this is an intermitent problem.  I think it is the neutral switch but not sure.  what do you think?  If it is the neutral switch where is it located on my bike?

Hi Rob.
  Your analysis looks to be very close to the mark.  As far as the location of the neutral switch, I don't really know for sure.  Your repair manual will show it and the wiring diagram, so refer there for that information.

 As far as the problem itself, it could be one of three things.

1)  Short in the wiring from the neutral switch to the light.

2)  Short in power to neutral switch.

3)  Bad neutral switch.

Check those things out and you will find the cause of your problem.
