Motorcycle Repair: Front end realignment, honda spada, head stock

Question
Hi Chris,

I need to realign the front end of my Honda Spada VT250 (F reg) - i am assuming its pretty straight forward, case of loosening head stock and adjusting, but how do i tell if it is in line without just guessing?

Answer
Hi Natalie.
You are right about the simplicity of making the adjustment, however there is no way to make sure that the work is correct without some specialized maesuring devices that are usually only available at the factory.  All that you can really do is to straighten it as best you can.

Usually, if you have someone hold the wheel while you sit upon the bike and straighten the bars to where they should be, that will work quite well.  Also make sure that the front of the bike is supported before you attempt this.  An automobile scissors jack, like you find in a Toyota, is perfect for this application.  As long as the front end is up and supported thorough the adjustment process, that is all that matters.

Good luck.
