Motorcycle Repair: drag pipe baffles, performance drag, heat problem

Question
Mike, I just installed drag pipes on a 107 c.i. S&S engine. I want to soften the bark of the pipes just a little while still getting the best possible sound. (bet that sounds familiar). I purchased two different types of baffles, one was the 4" mini baffle which I installed but they had a hissing, kind of muddled sound. Could this be caused by an exhaust leak or is it characteristic of the mini? I should mention that the pipes are only slightly curved and slash cut and i had to reduce the size of the baffle flange just a hair so they would go in. The other baffles I got are Krome Werks HP and are designed like the ones in Python AR systems, if you are familiar with those, but they are about 10" long and would be fairly close to the exhaust port flange, perhaps 6" on the shorter, rear pipe. Would that create a heat problem on the baffle? Mainly, what type of baffle, either one of these or some other you may have used would you recommend to get the best sound? Once again, thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
I would go with the chrome werks. The will work alot better for you.
Just so you know, your drag pipes are hurting your performance. Drag pipes are made for one thing, hi RPM's. They actually hurt low end and mid range.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
