Motorcycle Repair: Idle Adjustment, yamaha vstar, carbs

Question
I have a 1974 Honda CL360.  I have to keep the throttle open a little all the time or the engne will slow way down and cut off. I believe that increasing the idle adjustment would fix this. I am not sure exactly how to do this on this bike.  I would also like to know how to sync the carbs on this bike. I have a 2000 Yamaha Vstar and the idle is adjusted with a knob that sticks out to the side under the carbs. Very simple. The Yamaha also is fairly easy to sync the carbs. I am just not familiar with this Honda.  I really appreciate your help on this.

Answer
Hi Lewis.
Both jobs are pretty much the same on both bikes.

For the idle adjustment there is a knob under the carbs on the Honda, which is similar to the one on the Yamaha.  Get the Repair manual for your Honda and it will have the proceedure for synching the carbs.  There will always be a base carb and from there the proceedure is totally dependant on configuration.  The manual will have it in there.

Outside of the number of carbs, the synchro is pretty much the same basic proceedure for both bikes.

Good luck.
