Motorcycle Repair: electrical mishap, vf750 magna, honda vf750

Question
hello Christopher
i own a 94 honda vf750 magna, and i am having some electrical issues.
i blew my regulator months ago, but continued to ride. my battery exploded. stranded i had no choice but to use a portable jumper box to replace my battery just to get it home.
my turn signals were operating at 3X speed and then stopped working.
the front signals are iluminated, do not blink, off when i try to operate them.
my rear signals and brake light do not work at all.
the fuses are fine, and my local mechanic refuses to offer any advice and is a greedy man, do you have any advice for me? i want to fix it myself, and cant afford my greedy mechanic.

Answer
Hi Ari.
It sounds to me as if you may have fried most of the electrical system.

Start by checking all of the fuses and fuse connections to every affected system.  ALL electrical connections must be clean and tight, to work right.

Check the flasher unit for the turn signals and check the wiring for shorts and burned wires.

Check the wiring for the stator as well for worn/burned or shorted wires.

You will need the repair manual for the test specs on the electrical components as well as the wiring diagrams.

Good luck.
