Motorcycle Repair: Bike will not start, honda shadow ace, motor carbon brushes

Question
2002 Honda Shadow ACE 750
Drove the bike into work this morning without any problems. Shut the engine off, but realized I needed to move to another spot - the bike would not start again.  Lights are on at what seems full power, but the engine will not turn over.  It tried to at first, but now simply "clicks".  Is this a dead battery?  Problem with alternator? Can a bike this size be started by popping it into gear easily?
Thanks, Chris

Answer
Hi Chris,

Starter motor solenoid clicking means low battery or starter motor carbon brushes worn.

Visit www.bikebandit.com to view parts microfiche on-line.

You can bump-start the MC. Use 2nd gear for best results.
