hello ; i replaced the ignition module as suggested. picked up the screaming eagel module. at the local h-d dealer.  the bike still runs very poorly. i have to choke the motor to start and when i reduce the amount of choke the engine will stall if not you don't play with the throttle. anything else you could suggest would be welcomed. thanks for your help .

hello ; i have a 1998 heritage softail.  s&s "E" carb, vane&hines long shots, andrews cam. everything else stock.  the bike just died on me[motor shut down] but power to dash and lights sitll on. i pulled over to the side. turned the switch off for a moment to check the bike out. turned ignition back on hit the starter button. it started right up. no problems. since then that has happened one other time. with the same results.
i have noticed i had difficulty in starting a few times. seems to happen more when i have riden to bike a short time before [ 30minutes -to- 2hrs]. then last nite i started to bike up [after not starting it for 8hrs] i got a backfire and the bike will not idle properly [ you have to play the throttle to keep bike running] got i home like that and contacted you.
could please give me your thoughts in this matter or possible items to check. thank you for your time and consideration with this matter.

Replace the ignition modual. And to make the bike run good after you fix the ignition I would get rid of the Junk pipes and install a good exhaust system You will never ever get the bike to run correctly with the exhaust system you are running now. Oh yea looks good sounds good but run like crap. Johnny

Answer
Yes Get rid of the junk exhaust system. Install a 28 low jet and have a air/bleed jet installed. All new s&s carbs now come with a adjustable air bleed jet. main jet should be 66 to 68. Then take off the pump and adjust the air/fuel ratio screw and then bring bace in the pum untill you can wick the throttle with out a stumble. Again Get rid of that exhaust if you EVER want your bike to run correctly. I have about 50 pairs of these exhaust for sail for 100.00 plus shipping for any fool who will buy them and I also thell them befor thay buy them thay are tolal junk and there bike will lose horse power and torque across the entire power band and they will NEVER get there bike to run correctly with this exhaust system and some dummies still by then Dont Figure?.       Johnny
