Motorcycle Repair: Small oil leak on engine case, 2002 suzuki gs500, engine bolts

Question
Hi Chris,

I am riding a 2002 suzuki gs500.  After riding I see small traces of engine oil on the right side, on the engine cover (closer to the top).  Because oil is not dripping considerably, I can't see where the leak is coming from.  What could it be, based on the location?  What areas could I check for more info?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Alex.
Start by checking the bolts for the case.  They have probably loosened up.  If that doesn't fix it, then you could need a new gasket for the side case.

What you have is a little seepage.  This is normal for most every bike out there.  Feel lucky that you don't have a Pre-Evo Harley.  You would be tightening most of the engine bolts after a decent length ride.

Good luck.
