Motorcycle Repair: no fire to plugs, honda vt shadow, stator assembly

Question
Hi , i have a 1987 1100 honda vt shadow which  i have been experiencing for the  3rd time over a  5000km period where the fire to the plugs is cut out ,the honda dealer and I have checked the bike over , from wiring to battery, to ground , kill switch , everything ,. , a friend of mine was telling this to another biker, where by coincidence , his 1500 kawasaki did the same thing , hi noted that the sensor at the radiator was the cause , , my question is ,  would a sensorfor the radiator cause the bike not to fire  when the bike is heating ?

Answer
Roland, the wiring inside the motor and the coils are most sensitive to engine heating.

The spark timing signals begin with the pulser coils (genearlly part of the stator assembly on a lot of Hondas), then onto the spark module then to the coils. The ignition switch, Kill switch and other sensor/switches can cut off the ignition, including the side stand switch.

Check the resistances on the pulser coils COLD and HOT if you get it going again. If the pulser coils check out, check resistance values on the coil primary windings. If those are good and close to each other (F&R), then the spark module is probably at fault. Some people on the web have reported being able to repair the wiring connections on some spark boxes and get them going again.

Careful checks of the system, starting with the pulser coils will reveal the problem.
