Motorcycle Repair: tachometer, 1981 honda cx500, gas tank

Chris,
I have a 1981 Honda CX500 that needs the tach cable replaced.  I cannot find a way after removing the gas tank to get it out.  It goes into a small hole that is surrounded by a riveted cover part rubber part thin metal.  I do not see a set screw anywhere.  Do I have to take the radiator off to get to it?  I have the original book but it doesn't tell me anything.

Hi Steve.
 On that one, I am not certain.  It sounds as if the book you have is the OWNER's manual, which is almost useless for repair work.  You need to get the REPAIR manual.  It will tell you for certain as well as show you how to access it correctly.
