Motorcycle Repair: Oil level increasing, kawasaki vulcan 750, bikebandit com

Question
I have a 2002 Kawasaki Vulcan 750 with 11,500 miles. I recently noticed that the oil level was high, so thinking that I overfilled it, I changed the oil making sure it was filled correctly. With the bike on the center stand the level was about 1/8 to 1/4 inch below the high mark, with the engine off. Now after a few hundred miles the level is above the high mark. The bike runs great and is smooth, and I have not noticed any performance problems. The coolant level has not changed. And there is no smoke from the exhaust. Any ideas?

Thanks for any help

Answer
Hi Joe,

The only thing that come to mind is gasoline or coolant entering the crankcase. Varnished needle valves in the carburetors may cause gasoline to overfill and enter the crancase. Usually flows into the airbox, too, when this happens.

Gasoline in oil is harder to detect than water. Water doesn't blend and changes color to a milky like appearance. Gasoline may give an odor or gas with the oil, and will thin the oil in varying degrees with amounts of gas added.

Otherwise, I'm puzzled.
