Motorcycle Repair: Master link on drive chain, kawasaki zx7r, chain and sprockets
QuestionHi Chris, Can you tell me how far i need to hammer over the heads, of the pins, of the master link for a motorcycle chain? The ones on my chain are not the rivet type, they are solid pins. I have hammered them over just enough so i can catch an edge all around with a finger nail. Is this enough or should i hammer them over some more? The chain is a Tsubaki Sigma for a Kawasaki ZX7R (P3) Hope you can help, cheers Jack
AnswerHi Jack.
if you are removing links on a fixed-length chain, then it's time to replace the chain and sprockets. On those kind of chains there is no master link. Master links have always been a removable link with a long (semi-circlip type) clip to hold it in place.
If this is a hammered pin "master" link then you really need a new chain rather than removing links.
Good luck.
