Motorcycle Repair: vlx 600 engine cutting out, honda vlx, honda motorcycle

Question
Hi, I have a 03 honda vlx with staight pipes and a jetted carb was done when I purchased the bike brand new. It has 2200 mi on it. Yesterday was the first time I ever had a problem with a honda motorcycle. I was still able to drive it 140 mi yesterday. When the bike is in neutral it idles a little rougher than usual and there is more vibration than usual. Every 15 seconds the engine seems to cut out for a split second. When I ride the bike at 30mph the same thing happends every 10 seconds, at 40mph its 7 seconds, and at 50mph its 5 seconds. The bike seems to have a jerking movement when this happends. I bought the bike brand new and has been running perfect, except for now. 2 wks ago it was fine, I have not done anything different. I would greatly appreciate your expert advise.
Thank you,
Linda

Answer
Hi Linda,

I suspect the gasoline may have water or other  contamination. To check for this, drain float bowl gasoline into a container and examine the gasoline.

Other things that come to mind are ignition mapping problems, dirty pick coil, or other ignition related problems.
