Motorcycle Repair: 1985 Goldwing 1200, gasoline additive, position openings

Question
I am having trouble with the bike running rough in 2nd and 3rd gear. First, fourth and O.D. the bike runs fine. I just bought it and don't know much about it. I put carb cleaner in the tank and it seems to run a little better. Should I keep doing this for a while? Thanks, Jack

Answer
Hi Jack,

You may try the gasoline additive awhile and see if it improves performance. The additive alone may not be enough to thoroughly cleanse the varnish from the carburetor components and passageways. Consider replacing the fuel filter and air filter if necessary.

Try and describe carburetor reelated problem with throttle position openings: 1/4 to 1/2 throttle she boggs like a dog with fleas, etc... Carb circuits are respective to these openings. RPM's are helpful, but distant role.

I'll send several files to your email along with very good GL resource links.
