Motorcycle Repair: front brake, honda 750 four, 1978 honda 750

Question
I've got a 1978 Honda 750 FOUR motorbike everything seems fine for the front brake fluid's topped off, front disk seems to be alright yet still it's not working. Can I visually see anything if I pull on the hand brake as an indicator? What can I do? What would need replacing?

Answer
Hi Marcus.
Have you bled the brakes?  There could be air in the line.  If there is, then the brakes will either work marginally or not at all.

If you put the bike up on the centerstand, raise the front wheel off the ground and spin it.  Then hit the brake.  The wheel should stop.  If it doesn't, then there are a few things that could be wrong.

1)  Brakes not properly bled.

2)  Brake line clogged or balooning.  That will be obvious as you will see the brake line expand in one spot.

3)  Master cylinder needs to be rebuilt.

4)  Caliper is frozen and needs to be either disassembled/cleaned/rebuilt, or replaced.

Start with that and let me know what you find.
Good luck.
