Motorcycle Repair: loss of power / no tach, honda vf750f, fuel pump relay

Hi Chris, I was just riding home on my '84 Honda VF750F when I heard a small click, and my horsepower went down to hardly anything. At the same instant, my tachometer died (went completely to zero). The bike stayed running (barely) and got me home. If the throttle is down, the bike stalls.
What's going on?
Fuel pump relay?

 Actually that does sound like the fuel pump relay.  Had a similar problem on my V65 and a new one fixed it right up.

Check for shorts in that circuit as well and check the fuel pump (inaccordance with the specs in the repair manual), just to be safe.
