Motorcycle Repair: Whistling noise when downshifting, suzuki vs800 intruder, air leak

Question
Hi,

I have a 2000 Suzuki vs800 Intruder with approx. 9,000 miles. It has developed what I can best describe as a tea kettle whistling noise that usually happens when I down-shift or if I let off the throttle when the engine is at higher RPM.  I cant find the problem. Have you ever encountered this before?

Answer
Hi Rick,

That's a first for me.

Only thing that comes to mind is an air leak. Can you make the sound happen with the transmission in neutral?

You'll have to let a local tech ride and listen to the noise.

Please advise me if you find the source. I'll share your experience with others. mshively1@woh.rr.com
