Motorcycle Repair: carb leak, yamaha sr 500, pitcock

Question
Hi Chris: I rebuilt the carb on my 1978 Yamaha SR-500. When i turn on the fuel pitcock and wait about 30 seconds gas pours out of the carb. Could it be that i did not get the main jet seated right ?  Thanks for the help. By the way would you know what this bike is worth ? No dents or rust with original tires and only 6700 miles.     Thanks again    Bob

Answer
Hi Bob.
This is not a jet problem, it is a float seal problem.  Make sure the float is not sticking or has stopped floating and that it is set correctly.  If all that is right, then check the seal at the inlet to the carb that the float closes.

Good luck.
