Motorcycle Repair: wiring harness, upgrade to electronic ignition, electronic route, stock ignition

Question
do you recommend going to the electronic ignition?
I've got a 1969 Bonneville that is in pristine condition. It has a little over 10000 miles on it and runs beautifully other than a small problem I had this summer. A short in the headlight burnt some wires and I thought I had them traced out but seems its not so. If you don't think much about the conversion do you know where I could get a wiring harness? Would appreciate any input you could give.

I have heard many people sing the praises of the available electronic ignitions on the market. However, I am not one of them. Just stuck in a rut, I guess. When they go wrong, they go really wrong, and are out of my range to repair.

The stock ignition system is perfectly suitable as long as you keep up the maintenance. It's a matter of preference, I guess. I am a "stock" kind of guy.

If you do go the electronic route, be sure to preserve the original pieces. They will be a value enhancer if and when you decide to sell your bike.

There are lots of places to begin your search for a wiring harness:

http://www.britishonly.com
http://www.britcycle.com
http://www.baxtercycle.com

Be sure to quote your engine number when checking stock and ordering.

Let me know who gives you the best / worst service. I need to keep up with these things.
