Motorcycle Repair: 1979 Kawasaki KDX400, slide type, dirt bike

Question
Hello Mike,

I just got a 79 Kawasaki KDX400 Dirt bike. Would you happen to know what the size and model of the carb is? It's a Mikuni VM round slide type carb, from what I can tell. the reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to get a carb rebuild kit for it. Do you happen to know the fuel/oil ratio on this bike? What kind of fluid should I put in the transmission /clutch? Thanks for any help! acatlynx@localnet.com

Answer
Hi Seth,

Try researching the following links. Contact these companies and inquire where to find the kits you seek.

I think Kaw used 32:1 premix ratio, but I'm not certain.

Use 10W40 in the gearbox.

Look for the KDX Service Manual on line. They're cheap and have all the info you're looking for.
