Motorcycle Repair: front forks on 99 shadow 1100 ace, wheel brakes, torque specifications

Question
Chris, how hard is it to change the forks on a shadow 1100 ace?
I hit the back of a car and slightly bent the forks at the very top.

thank you

Answer
Hi Mike.
It's not hard at all.  You will need a torque wrench to tighten the bolts down on re-installation.

1)  Block the bike so that it's straight up and the front end has no weight on it.

2)  Remove the front wheel, brakes, fender, etc.

3)  Loosen the lockdown bolts on each fork mount point on the triple-tree.

4)  Remove the forks.

5)  Install the new forks in the same positins as the old ones and tighten down as per the specs in the repair manual.  These are held in place with specific torque specifications for a reason.

6)  Reinstall the fender, wheel, brakes, etc.

7)  Remove the blocking and ride off.

Good luck.
