Motorcycle Repair: rear brake, rear brakes, lubrication problems

i went to push down on my rear brake and the pedal wont come back up inless i pull it up with my foot the spring on it is not broke is there a simple fix or do i need to bring it in to be repaired this is a 75 gl 1000 with only 28000 miles on it

Hi Kevin.
 Have you checked all of the springs in the mechanism to see if they are worn?  (Including the ones In the brake mechanism within the drum, if it has drum rear brakes)

 The springs do not need to be broken to be weakened enough to not do the job anymore.

 Also, check for any lubrication problems.  Perhaps the lever is sticking because it is underlubricated.

 There is also the possibility of something catching just enough to prevent lever return.  If you have the mechanical drum rear brake, then you could need new brake shoes or you could need to adjust the brake.  The adjuster is on that rod that comes from the brake lever toand connects to the drum brake actuation lever.

Start with those and let me know what you find.
