Question
Falcon,

Thank you very much for the fast and informative answer. After I had read already sent you that question I had searched some of your archives on this about.com website and saw some people pointing to the carb bowl gaskets as the problem as well. I am going to the dealership today to get the O-rings and hopefully that will fix the problem. My next question is in two parts.

A.If the O-ring isnt the problem should I try replacing the bowl gaskets?
B.I've read they are expensive and only come in complete carb rebuild sets per carb. So is it possible to buy gasoline quality gasket sheet material and trace and cut my own?

Thanks a bunch this website so so rocks :)

Josh

I just recently replaced my entire carburetor rack. The set of carbs came from Ebay and they started the bike up great. I only have one problem. Apparently the two driver side carbs leak gas bad. As soon as they fill up with gas a steady stream starts coming out the bottom of those two. I am very mechanically inclined and would like to know what I need to do to stop them from doing this.

Thanks in advace,

Josh

Hi Josh.
What you need to do is replace the seals on the drain screws.  They are tiny rubber o-rings that you can get through the dealership.

Good luck.

Answer
Hi Josh.
Since the leak is coming from the drain, then the bowl seals are not the problem.  However, if any of the seals are bad, then replacing them all would best serve you since it would save you time and effort when other seals go bad in the carbs.

As far as using gasket material to make gaskets for the float bowls, to need to remember that they need to be thick enough to do the job as well as needing to use the correct type of gasket sealer with it.

Good luck.
