Motorcycle Repair: Clutch cable, kawasaki kz550, clutch cable

Question
I replaced a broken clutch cable on an '82 kawasaki kz550 ltd.
Now there is about an inch of slack in the cable I have tried everything in the clymers manual. What should I do next?

Answer
Hi Dave.
Is the replacement cabel exactly the same length as the old one?
Sometimes, when you order a cable, they get the numbers wrong and you get a part for the wrong bike.

If the original and the replacement are the same, then there shouldn't be a problem.  However, you should double-check cable routing as well as all of your adjustments for the clutch cable.  If it's still too long, then check back with the shop.  You may have ended up with the wrong cable.

If the cable is the right one, then repositioning the lever at the engine side of the cable may be the last resort.  That would fix it.

Good luck.
