Motorcycle Repair: Carb for Honda PA50 Moped 1980, honda pa50, starter fluid

Question
Stored for years. Won't run unless we spray starter fluid in intake.  Need to clean float bowl and jets.  Carb is buried in frame. Do we take off the side panels inside of chain and belt or is it easier to remove engine to get to carb?

Answer
Hi Bruce.
Good call on the carb.  Sounds like it does need a complete and thorough cleaning.

In the case of a moped, your best bet is to pull the engine.  It's so tiny that it isn't a heavy job.  You will need to pull it, anyway, to go over everything to insure that everything in the engine, as well as behind the engine on the bike, is still good.

Storage over years can do nasty things to metals, oils, wiring and such.  You will also want to go over the rest of the bike to make sure that there are no other problems brewing as well.

Good luck.
