Motorcycle Repair: charging system trouble, stator coil, kawasaki ninja

Question
bike-1994 kawasaki ninja zx6e. hi, i read your article and did what it said. my bike had shut off on the highway. no power at all and the fuel pump was smoking. being that someone told me the pump would need to be replaced soon i replaced it. then put a new battery, stator coil and then regulator. two months later it still won't hold a charge. i took it to a honda dealer because there is no kawasaki dealer near me. he tested it before the regulator was put on and said maybe it's the reg because i bought it used. i got a new one and now it reads about 12.60 across the battery. when he revs it up it goes up to 12.79. he says it should go to 16 or 17 so it's not charging the battery. please help it's been 2 months since i started to fix this and i am ready to give up and sell it. thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Roscoe.
This sounds like a stator coil problem, but you said that you replaced it.

Have you checked the wiring for shorts?

Unless your replacement stator coil was bad, then I am not certain that it could be anything else.

Sorry I can't help further.
Good luck.
