Motorcycle Repair: dyna ignition, air fuel mixture, accel coils

Question
I am installing a dyna ignition on my 78 z1r. I took the dyna ignition off my 82 kz so I know it is good. when i hooked it up i blew the main fuse. I replaced the fuse but now i have no spark. What did i do wrong? Could i have messed up my coils or ignition? I have old accel coils on the z1r. The bike did run with the other electronic ignition but bogged down at higher rpm's I was told that the ignition was going bad. The old ignition dose not work now either.

Answer
Hi Mark,

Reply: There was a direct short. As if touching power lead to ground.

You Wrote: "Could i have messed up my coils or ignition?"

Reply: I think the ignition coils survived. They are very durable. The electronics inside the ignition module may have been damaged by the short.

Reply: Air-fuel mixture too rich. Engine was starving for air. Ignition would be a problem in any range of carburetion.

Reply: Have to find why old ignition not working now. Check obvious: fuses, wiring, etc... Check and trace entire circuit until you find the reason. The task is not simple, requires some investigating. Frustrating if you're not electrical savy.
