Motorcycle Repair: Suzuki electrical wiring harness, suzuki rg500, yamaha tz750

Question
I am in the process of changing the wiring harness on my 1999 Suzuki TL1000R.  I've put it all in place except for me wondering about the wiring harness touching the engine block.  It runs to the left of the engine.  I had it higher and then pushed it lower, aside the block, but it's still touching.  I can't find a place to leave it where it won't touch the engine.  Where is it supposed to go?  Is it supposed to touch the engine?  Thank you for your time and help!

Answer
Hi Tonya,

The TL is my favorite MC (next to the Yamaha TZ750 & Suzuki RG500).

The wiring harness is snuggled along the frame rails and close to the engine. If necessary, install a heat shield fabricated of aluminum or heavy plastic where the harness contacts the engine. The engine will not become hot enough to damage the wiring, but extra resistance from the heat is not desirable. Wrap the portion of harness in a wiring loom or a split coolant hose.

Here's a couple of popular TL websites that may be helpful.
