Motorcycle Repair: oil leak, honda customer, bill silver

Question
1998 areo 1100 7200 miles, rode the other day and after i stopped i had a large oil leak comming from above the bottom colant line. it looks like some type of freeze plug? i noticed it looked like is was comming out and i pushed it back in. it went back easy. question what is it? and what keeps it from backing out?  the bike is very clean and maintained by a local dealer. i bought it about 500 miles ago.  thanks for some help.

Answer
Dennis, I don't know the bike that well, but from your description I would think it is an oil galley plug. There is high pressure oil running in the engine, so anything that can't resist about 75psi will get pushed out. You might try to call Honda Customer Service and see if they have a service bulletin covering this issue or if they will extend some credit towards repairs, due to low mileage.

Have the dealer make a call on your behalf if is is some kind of manufacturing defect.
