Motorcycle Repair: whistle, honda shadow aero, stock exhaust

Question
Hi, i'm going into this not expecting much as i know you cant see the bike yourself, but maybe this is something that is common and you've dealt with before.  Anyways i just bought a 98 honda shadow aero and i'm getting a high whistle from it when riding, usually after about 10 to 20 minutes or so and it occcurs when the throttle is slightly open(if its happening at full open i just cant hear it over the exhaust).  once the bike is warm, i can make it happen while sitting on the kickstand by turning the throttle just under halfway and holding it there so that eliminates wind being the cause. i have an aftermarket exhaust system and i thought that was the problem so i took it off and changed the way the connections were sealed to no avail, then i took it off and put the stock exhaust on and i still get the whistle so it's not the exhaust. i've combed the bike over looking for something loose and cannot find a thing, i took off the seat and gas tank and still couldnt find anything loose.  i bought an engine stethoscope and touched it all over the bike while a friend turned the throttle making it whistle and i got some rattle noise when i touched it to the chrome right next to the bolt on the part where the key goes in on the left side of the bike. my friend thinks this may just be a noise that is caused by the single pin engine but i dont see how that's possible because its so obnoxious i couldnt see a whole lot of bikes selling if they all did it, its almost annoying enough that it keeps me off the bike.  thats all i've got, have you dealt with anything like this before on similar bikes? have any ideas of what i should look at?  thanks -scott

Answer
Hi Scott,

Sorry! This is not a known problem to me. As you know, without being present I'm not much help.
